Heaviest moments in Heavy Metal #4523 – Motörhead – Ace Of Spades

Everyone knows this one – some of the heaviest power chords ever committed to vinyl punctuate the ending of this most heavy of punk Metal numbers.

In this video (which some copyright-breaking felon on YouTube has excised from a classic Young Ones episode) those distorted stabs of finality occur at 2:52, i.e. right at the end.

Simple enough to play – power chords in bar form E5 to D5 and back, but it’s all in the attitude with these babies – smack them hard and feel the right moments when to exert finger pressure, when to slide down as the chord dissipates etc. Don’t forget to downtune a Lemmyesque half-step:

  2. Hey, man–Motorhead write kickass stuff. You ever tried playing some Mastodon? Sleeping Giant is a badass song (it’s where I’m pointing with that link).
