The Farthest Land

My transcription and arrangement for solo guitar of The Farthest Land from the PS2 game Shadow Of The Colossus by Japanese composer Ko Otani.

Amazing emotive music.

I did get a bit tired of this one at the end too as it’s quite long  – I think the chords are probably wrong in the last couple of bars and I’ll fix those eventually.

  1. This is really good. What’s your process of transcribing a song? How long does it usually take?

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Tom

The process depends on the song. In this case it was listening first to all the accompaniment parts over and over again, figuring out the notes by ear, checking and rechecking by playing along with the resultant chords and then transcribing the melody and putting it on top in Sibelius. I reckon I spent about 7-8 hours on this one in total just getting to this point without actually having started to learn to play it yet.

  3. Cool. I haven’t really done much transcription, but it seems like it would be a fun process and that you would learn a lot as a player as you’re doing it. Thanks for the info.
