Let’s face it – guitarists are shit when it comes to security.

“ADRIAN SMITH GUITAR STOLEN”

Adrian’s new Jackson guitar was stolen after the show in Athens on Saturday night.

Can all Maiden fans please be on the lookout for the guitar.
It will be extremely hard to get rid of as it’s the only one in the world.
There will be a reward of a Maiden tour jacket and I’m sure a hand written letter of thanks from Adrian for anyone with information leading to the recovery of the guitar.
DESCRIPTION:
JACKSON STRAT COL. WHITE ADRIAN SMITH SIGNATURE MODEL, WHITE SCRATCH PLATE
EBONY FRETBOARD
ADRIAN SMITH SIGNATURE ON FRONT OF HEADSTOCK
HUMBUCKER BRIDGE PICK-UP
TWO SINGLE COIL PICK-UPS
RECTANGULAR BLACK MOULDED JACKSON GUITAR CASE.
The serial number of the guitar is
8467”

Not a month goes by when I don’t read about stolen guitars from the famous, the not so famous and the downright unknown while they were doing a gig. They’re usually some expensive custom job, or an irreplaceable one-off, or something with sentimental value and there’s always some kind of reward (usually shit as well like a tour jacket and a signed certificate of thanks) or a paltry token sum of cash that probably wouldn’t cover the train fare or petrol of the finder to deliver it to the rightful owner.

The question begging is this: how can so many bands allow people to waltz backstage (or even onstage) and then waltz off with, let’s face it, rather large items of gear? It’s not like you can stuff a Strat down your underpants, then loaf off out the back door whistling ‘Run to the Hills’ is it?

Oh – and if Adrian’s guitar is ‘the only one in the world’ why is its serial number 8467?

  1. Advanced guitar lessons…

    Excellent post…

  2. Just a tour jacket? I mean that’s a great reward and all, but I think they should throw in a couple of cases of beer with that. If this were a monty python skit, the guitar itself would be the reward.
